Playhouse Square’s President & CEO is Craig Hassall AM, who brings a legacy of global leadership and transformative impact in the performing arts.

Craig Hassall’s career spans three continents—Australiathe United Kingdom, and the United States—with executive roles at some of the world’s most iconic cultural institutions. He previously served as:

  • CEO of the Royal Albert Hall in London, where he championed inclusive programming such as Relaxed Performances for children with autism and sensory impairments
  • CEO of Opera Australia, launching a national tour of The Magic Flute to remote communities across the country
  • CEO of English National BalletCOO of Raymond Gubbay Ltd, and consultant to the London 2012 Olympic Games on cultural presentations
  • General Manager of Image, Special Events and Olympic Arts Festivals for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, overseeing a four-year cultural program

At Playhouse Square, Craig leads a vibrant district of 12 venues and eight resident companies, driving innovation in programming, placemaking, and real estate development. His recent achievements include:

  • Launching a Neurological Programming pilot, expanding accessibility and inclusion
  • Overseeing the opening of The Bulkley ApartmentsBrasserie, and Bulkley Bar, and securing new retail tenants
  • Advancing a District Masterplan and Real Estate Masterplan to guide long-term sustainability and growth
  • Confirming five national Broadway tours, including The Outsiders, which won Best Musical at the Tony Awards

Craig’s leadership has earned him numerous accolades:

  • Australia Medal (AM) for services to the performing arts
  • University of Sydney Lifetime Achievement Award (2020)
  • Named a Global Ambassador for Advance Australia
  • Selected for Crain’s Cleveland Business Who’s Who list of regional leaders
