Survey & National Register Reviews Manager

Mary Rody is a Survey & National Register Reviews Manager for the Inventory & Registration Department at Ohio’s State Historic Preservation Office, a division of the Ohio History Connection. She has been full-time in this role for one year. Since joining SHPO in 2015, she assisted the IR department part-time for two years, held full-time responsibilities as Section 106 reviewer, ultimately for ODOT, for seven years, and assisted with tax credit application reviews for six years. She earned a Master of Historic Preservation degree from Ursuline College. Prior to joining SHPO staff, Mary worked for four years as the Heritage Home Program Specialist at the Cleveland Restoration Society, where she facilitated older home construction and repairs for homeowners through education, technical assistance, and financing.

National Register Case Studies: Evaluating Significance of Historic Properties

Jim Gabbert, a National Park Service National Register Reviewer, and the National Register staff from the State Historic Preservation Office will address challenging topics encountered with the wide range of diverse properties nominated to the National Register. Session will include audience participation in examining case studies of National Register nominations for common property types such as schools, apartment buildings, industrial complexes, historic districts, and properties associated with recent past history and modern architecture. New information for amending nominations will be shared.
